Overview
All personally owned devices will need to be registered to work on the campus network and in the dorms. If the device has a browser, when you connect to ASC-WiFi it will prompt you to register the device via the Captive Portal page by logging in with your Alfred State username and password (do not type your full e-mail, just everything before the @alfredstate.edu).
If you have an iOS or MacOS device, we recommend you follow the guides below in the "Laptops, Desktops, and Mobile Devices" section as they detail how to turn off Mac Randomization (If you do not turn this feature of, you will be asked to register your device every time you connect to ASC-WiFi)
The Captive Portal should appear shortly after connecting to ASC-WiFi. If it does not do so automatically, opening a browser and trying to search something or navigating to any page may force it to load the portal.
Devices include:
- Cell Phones
- Gaming Consoles
- Computers
- Laptops
- Tablets
- Smart TVs
- Streaming Devices
Laptops, Desktops, and Mobile Devices with a WiFi Connection (and Browser)
If your device connects over WiFi and can access a browser, connect to ASC-WiFi and log into the captive portal page that pops up, here are guides for the most common devices,

Other Smart Devices Without a Browser or Wired Connections (Ethernet)
For any device that does not have an accessible browser, or any wired devices, they must be manually registered following the guide below. It is also a good idea to try manually registering if you are having issues with the captive portal login on ASC-WiFi.
(Alexas, Smart TVs, Projectors, some consoles, and any Smart Devices without a browser are common devices that need to be manually registered by MAC Address)

Finding Your MAC Address
Each device is different, start by searching online "find (device type/name) MAC Address" and you should find step by step instructions for your specific device. Generally if a device has a "Network" section in the settings it can be found there. Make certain you get the Physical/LAN/Wired Mac Address if you are using a wired connection and the Wireless/WiFi Mac Address for wireless connections.
IMPORTANT: Mac and iOS devices often have a MAC Randomization or Rotation setting on by default, please turn that to fixed or off in order to prevent your MAC Address from changing every time you connect. (Many modern devices have the option to do so, but are off by default so if you have turned it on please disable the feature). If you are unsure how to do so it is detailed in the Captive Portal guides linked in the "Laptops, Dekstops, and Mobile Devices with a WiFi Connection (and Browser)" section above.
If you are having difficulty finding your MAC address or are unsure which to use, please contact the Help Desk using the information below.
