Connecting to ASC-WiFi (Laptops / Desktops - Windows / MacOS)

Overview

ASC-WiFi is the wireless network for all personal devices on campus, for devices with a browser you can connect to ASC-WiFi and log in with your username and password. Windows (11)

 

  1. Click the connections "globe" in the bottom right of your screen (if you are already connected to WiFi, it will show WiFi bars instead)Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  2. Click "ASC-WiFi" from the network listUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  3. Check "Connect Automatically" if you want it to always try to connect when available, then click "Connect"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  4. You should get a pop-up saying "Action needed", click on that, (if you did not get the pop up, open a browser and Google something to be redirected)Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  5. Enter your Alfred State username and password into the login page that appears (IMPORTANT: Typing your full e-mail will return a generic error message, only type the part before @alfredstate.edu) Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  6. Then check the "I accept the terms of use" box, and click "Log In"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  7. If your login was successful you should see the Alfred State homepage, if you get an error message please review the troubleshooting section belowUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

 

MacOS (Tahoe)

 

  1. Click the apple logo in the top left Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  3. Click "Network" in the left hand menu Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  4. Click "Wi-Fi" on the Network pageUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  5. Scroll down to "Other Networks", locate "ASC-WiFi", and click the three dots in a circle next to itUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  6. Click "Rotating" next to "Private Wi-Fi Address" and change it from Rotating to "Fixed" or "Off" (if you skip this step, every single time you connect to the Network you need to register the device again)Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  8. Locate "ASC-WiFi" again, hover over it, then click "Connect"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Troubleshooting

"Authentication Failed" - Indicates the username does not exist (almost always, this occurs when you type your e-mail instead of your username)

"AcceptSecurityContext error" - Indicates you typed a valid username, but the password was not entered correctly
