Register Devices to the Network (Wired Connections, Smart Devices, and Consoles)

Overview

Registering devices with their MAC Address is the only way to connect certain devices to the network (smart devices & consoles) or to use a wired connection (Ethernet)

It can also be useful to try if you are experiencing issues registering through the login page after connecting to the WiFi

Guide

IMPORTANT: Before starting, make sure you are on a device connected to ASC-WiFi already or the page will not load, if you do not have one use one of these guides to connect your computer or phone. If that is not an option, you can use any of the lab computers available to students on campus.

  1. Get your device MAC Address, this is typically under the network settings of the device, if you are unsure where to find it, google "Find mac address for (device name)", make sure to get the Wired or Physical MAC Address for a wired connection and the Wireless or WiFi Address for a WiFi connection.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues:

No connection after registering - Make certain you restarted the device, and have double checked that you entered the MAC address exactly as it appears on the device. Also make sure you chose the right MAC address most devices will have a wired and wireless MAC address. If the issue persists, disconnected and reconnect a few times (if you are using a wired connection, unplug and reconnect the cable at the wall)

MAC Randomization - Especially if the device worked then stopped connecting, look up if your device has a MAC Randomization settings, this will cause your device to change your MAC Address, however that is necessary for registering the device. If you can turn the setting off that is recommended, if it is not, make sure the changed MAC is "Static" if possible, then register that MAC address as well.

Still not working? Have your MAC address handy and call or e-mail the Help Desk with their information below
