Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)

Overview

Alfred State College is using industry leading Microsoft Azure AD Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to protect our users and data from email spam, phishing, and ransom attacks. MFA simply means that anyone accessing Alfred State accounts or data will need to provide two forms of identification: your standard username and password, and one other form of ID. MFA is based on the concept of authentication from two of the three major types of Identification (i.e. multiple types or factors), as the image above shows, the three categories of authentication are: something you know, something you have, and something you are **currently Alfred State will not use something you are (biometrics) for MFA.
