Unlock and Change Your Desktop Background

Overview

This guide will walk you through unlocking and updating the background of your Alfred State managed computer. This can only be done on devices you are the primary user (and an administrator) on. This cannot be performed on teaching stations or lab machines, and for personal devices, your desktop will not be locked and you do not need to edit the policy shown in the first several steps.

Changing the Background

 

  1. Click your windows key in the bottom left of your screen or keyboardUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  2. Type "edit group policy" then click on itUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  3. Click "Administrative Template" in the new windowUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  4. Double-click "Desktop"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  5. Double-click "Desktop" again on the next pageUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  6. Locate the "Desktop Wallpaper" setting and double-click itUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  7. Change the setting to "Not Configured"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  8. Click "Apply" in the bottom right of this windowUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  11. Click power on the right-hand side of this windowUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  12. Save and close anything you have open, then click "Restart" (if you skip this step, you will not be able to change the background)Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  13. Click the Windows key again once you have restartedUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  14. Type, and then click on "Settings"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  15. Click on "Personalization"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  16. Click "Background"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  17. Choose from the recent images at the top, or to select a photo, click "Browse photos"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  18. Find and double-click the photo you want as your backgroundUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
