Overview
DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence has been banned on ITS-managed government devices and networks. Technology Services has developed policies and restricted to help support this banned on all Alfred State Owned devices and networks. This ban has been implemented due to due to raising concerns about how DeepSeek AI is used to harvest user data and steal technology secrets and possible connections to foreign government surveillance and censorship.
Restrictions
The current directive for Deepseek AI is as follows:
- DeepSeek AI is prohibited from being downloaded and/or used on Alfred State College managed systems.
- Sensitive SUNY and campus information must not be entered into DeepSeek AI or any other AI tool (such as CoPilot or ChatGPT), unless it has been authorized by the campus.
- Submit an exception through Technology Services (Submit Security Exception) to allow access to DeepSeek AI for legitimate research purposes. This exception will be reviewed by the Provost, Director of Technology Services, and Information Security Officer.
