Installing Autodesk Products (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Maya, Revit, and more)

Prerequisites and Software Requirements

Device Type / Operating System Compatibility

  • Windows 11 computers - can install any product available on the Autodesk Products page 
  • Apple / Mac computers - can only install Maya (full) or AutoCAD for Mac (limited features)
    (NOTE: You can purchase and subscribe to Parallels to run Windows 11 on your Mac, Help Desk cannot guarantee compatibility with Autodesk products but will assist however possible to get it to work)
  • Chromebooks - cannot install anything, can only use web applications (extremely restricted)

Before Installing

  • Check your laptop is plugged in and charging (install can take upwards of 20 minutes)
  • Make sure you have a stable network connection
  • DISABLE ALL ANTI-VIRUS/ANTI-MALWARE SOFTWARE - IT WILL CANCEL THE INSTALLATION
    (Some products may use anti-virus features without being apparent, such as NordVPN)

Installation
  1. Click this link or navigate to, https://www.autodesk.com/education/home

     
  2. Click "Sign In" in the top rightUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  3. If you do not have an Autodesk account using your Alfred State E-mail, click "Create account" (If you do, log in then skip to step 6)Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  4. On the create account page, enter your full Alfred State e-mail, then click "Next"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  5. Enter your e-mail again, and complete the Alfred State loginUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  6. Once logged in, scroll down a bit and view the products available, IF you see the product you need, click "Select" on that product only (and skip to step 8), otherwise click "See all products" up and to the rightUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  7. If your product was not shown on the last page, locate it on the All products page and click "Select"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  8. Verify the product shown is the one your are looking to install, then click "Access products" under "Student"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  9. On the products page you are sent to, locate your product again, then verify the 3 drop downs above the install button are correct.  You want the newest version, and to ensure your operating system and language shown are correct. you want the newest version, and to ensure your operating system and language shown are correctUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  10. Ensure you have located the product YOU need to install, not necessarily the product shown below, then click "Install"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)( Note: Some products say "Access", that will direct you to the web application (i.e. AutoCAD Web) or another website to complete the download (i.e. Twinmotion) )

     
  11. Immediately after clicking "Install" click "Accept" on the popupUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  12. Once the installer finishes downloading you may be able to click on it in the top right to start the install (if you do so, skip to step 17)Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  13. If you did not start the installer from the screenshot above, open file explorer, start by hitting the windows key (the most left-hand icon on your taskbar) Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  14. Type, and then click on "File Explorer"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  15. Click "Downloads" from the left-hand menuUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  16. Locate and double click the installer you just downloaded from the Autodesk websiteUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  17. Click “Yes” on any popups asking for permissions for whichever product you selected Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  18. Your installer will appear differently depending on your software selected, follow the prompts, generally clicking "Next" and "Install" until you can hit "Start"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  19. The install location shown is good unless you need to change it to a different drive due to storage concerns, click "Install"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  20. Wait for the install, generally 15-25 minutes depending on device and connection speed

     
  21. Click "Start" or whatever option your installer gives you once doneUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  22. You should be prompted to activate the product, click "Sign in with your Autodesk ID"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  23. Log in with the account created in the previous stepsUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  24. Once logged in you can click "Open Product"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  25. You will likely need to click "Open Autodesk Identity Manager" to return to the app, this message may be slightly different depending on your browserUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  26. You can uncheck the blue boxes shown on the privacy popup, uncheck whatever is undesired then click "OK" Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  27. If you have not done so you may be prompted to provide some information about what industry you are in and your role. You can hit "Cancel" to skip or provide the information and hit "Save" if you wish Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  28. The product you chose should now be fully installed and licensed, you can repeat this process for any other Autodesk products. There is a troubleshooting section directly below if you ran into any issues

Troubleshooting
  • If the installation never start or silently stops
    • Pause active protection for any anti-virus software
    • Check you are not in S mode, hit the windows key, type "Microsoft Store" and open that, search for "S-mode" and click "Get" on "Switch out of S-Mode" from the store. If it is not there, carry on to other troubleshooting steps
    • Open Settings, then go to the "Apps" section. In the "Apps" section, go to the "Advanced app settings" screen. Make sure the "Choose where to get apps" drop down is set to any of the Anywhere options
       
  • I get an error or a prompt to install updates
    • Pause active protection for any anti-virus software
    • Check the Settings app, in the Windows Update section, if there is a prompt or button to restart to install updates click on it
    • Restart your computer and try again
    • Check your storage, return to settings, click "System", then "Storage", wait for it to load then go into categories taking up significant space and delete apps or files until you have enough space

      Most Autodesk apps are 15GB+, for exact space requirements refer back to the specifications guide, then click your product. Now scroll down to "Disk Space", make sure you have more than the listed amount
